I am a domestic abuse survivor. I endured years of abuse from my children’s father. He mentally, physically, financially and sexually abused me. He isolated me and told me if I ever left him he would take my kids to Africa and I would never see them again. It was hard for me to escape he controlled everything in my life. I had a broken nose twice and he fractured the bone under my eye from stomping me in the face. I left him and he went to jail for what he did to me but he didn’t stay long incarcerated. I went to the women’s abused shelter Anova twice and moved twice to escape him. Children’s aids society stayed in my life to protect my children and I until they knew he was gone. I filed for full custody and I won. I knew I was free from this monster. The courts stripped him from any rights of him traveling with my children and put a travel restriction on passports. For years I have struggled with depression, ptsd and an anxiety disorder. I struggle with physical things in my body years later from the abuse. I am slowly working on myself again and now married and know what love is supposed to be. An amazing woman who use to be my neighbor is the founder of fixing her crown, I started following the group a couple years ago. I finally had the courage to join groups in person and have fun volunteering. Everything woman at fixing her crown has a story and a place to belong without judgment. I don’t always know the right things to say or may be different but this group has shown me family and a sense of belonging. My story isn’t pretty but I will share it to help others so you know your not alone there is help, never give up on yourself continue to fix your crown.
